Instagram Hashtags

Three sets of five hashtags for one post, each with a clear purpose, plus a reserve list to rotate across your next posts.

Instagram now allows at most five hashtags on each post or Reel, so the old habit of pasting thirty tags under a caption no longer works. Every hashtag has to describe the content and reach people who would actually care about it. The Instagram Hashtag Generator builds those short lists for you from a topic and a few keywords.

You describe what the post is about, for example a vegan bakery in Milan launching a Sunday brunch. The tool returns three sets of five hashtags, each introduced by one line that explains what it is for. Set A targets the niche, Set B the wider community around the subject, Set C the place, season or event. A reserve list of ten more hashtags lets you rotate tags from one post to the next instead of repeating the same five every time.

The tool is part of the Social media family and pairs naturally with Instagram Captions, which writes the text the hashtags sit under.

What you get

  • Three sets of exactly five hashtags, each on one line, ready to paste under a post or Reel
  • A one-line purpose for every set, so you know which one fits which post
  • Ten reserve hashtags on the same topic, to rotate across a series of posts
  • Multi-word hashtags with each word capitalized (#VeganBakery), easier to read and friendlier to screen readers
  • No generic engagement tags such as #followforfollow or #like4like, and no unrelated trends
  • A placeholder such as [#YourBrand] when a branded tag would help but you have not given one

What you fill in

Topic and keywords optional

Describe the post in a few words, then add the place, the audience and any event or season. Separate keywords with commas.

How to use it, step by step

  1. Describe the post, not the whole account

Hashtags work post by post. Write what this specific post or Reel shows, for example "sourdough loaves coming out of the oven for Sunday brunch", rather than a general description of the business.

  2. Add the place and the moment

A city, a neighborhood, a season or an event gives the tool what it needs for Set C. Without them, Set C becomes a branded or campaign mix with a placeholder for your own tag.

  3. Choose the output language and generate

The language setting decides which market the hashtags come from. Italian output favors hashtags used by Italian accounts, while widely used English tags still appear where they are the norm in that niche.

  4. Use one set and keep the reserve

Paste one set of five under the post. Save the reserve list in your notes and swap a few tags in on the next posts about the same theme, so you are not repeating identical tags every time.

Tips for better results

  • Write the words people would search, not your internal names. "Sourdough" works better than the name of your recipe.
  • Add the city or neighborhood whenever the post is about a physical place. For a shop or a restaurant, local tags are often the most relevant ones.
  • Run the tool once per content theme (products, behind the scenes, events) and keep one reserve list per theme.
  • Put the hashtags at the end of the caption or in the first comment, as you prefer. The tool writes the tags, not where they go.

Who uses it, and for what

Restaurant or café posting every day

Generate one group of sets per menu theme at the start of the month and rotate the reserve tags, instead of improvising a new list for every photo.

Freelance social media manager

Prepare hashtag sets for several clients in one session. Sets with a stated purpose are easier to explain to a client than a long list of tags.

Local shop promoting an event

Describe the event and the city, then use Set C on the announcement and on the reminder posts that follow.

Limits and good practice

  • The tool does not see live Instagram data. It does not know how many posts use a hashtag today or whether a tag has been restricted, so search any unfamiliar tag in Instagram before using it.
  • Platform rules change. The five-hashtag limit reflects Instagram's rule when this page was written.
  • Hashtags help people find a post, they do not guarantee reach. The content and the caption still do most of the work.
  • Every generation uses credits from your plan. See the pricing page for what each plan includes.

Frequently asked questions

How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?

Instagram currently allows up to five hashtags per post or Reel, so the tool builds every set with exactly five. With so few slots, relevance matters more than volume. That is why each set has a single purpose and the tool never adds generic engagement tags that describe nothing about the content.

Why three sets instead of one list?

Because each set reaches a different group of people, the niche audience, the wider community around the topic and local or event searches. You choose the set that fits the post, and the reserve list lets you vary the tags across a series without starting again from scratch.

Will the hashtags be in Italian or in English?

They follow the output language you choose in the settings. Italian output uses hashtags that Italian accounts actually use, and English tags appear where they are the norm in that niche, as often happens with food, fitness or design topics.

Does the tool check whether a hashtag is restricted or too crowded?

No. It works from the topic you give and general knowledge of how hashtags are used, not from live Instagram data. Before using a tag you have never seen, search for it in Instagram and look at the posts it shows.

Can I get hashtags for TikTok or YouTube too?

This tool follows Instagram's rules. For TikTok, TikTok Captions writes the caption together with three to five hashtags. For YouTube, YouTube Video Tags writes the tags that go in the video settings. Each platform has its own limits, so a set built for one rarely fits another.
